Cold temps and wet weather can be a real headache for sealant work. Here’s how to keep your project on track when it’s freezing outside:
Ⅰ. Check your sealant – Always look at the batch number and “best by” date. If it’s expired, toss it. Old sealant = poor results.
Ⅱ. Start with a spotless surface – Wipe away dust, frost, and moisture. Use an adhesion promoter to clean and boost bonding in one go.
Ⅲ. Mind the temperature – Under 40°F (4°C)? Ideally, wait for warmer weather. If you must work, give it extra time to cure.
Ⅳ. Warm up your sealant – A heat pack, oven, or even warm water can make it easier to apply. An electric caulk gun will save your hands and speed things up.
Ⅴ. Test before you call it done – After curing, cut a sample bead and do a peel test to make sure it’s holding strong.
Pro tip: In winter, the small details make the big difference.
